Teenagers Counselling

Neutral and confidential support while

navigating life and love.

Therapy For Teenagers

Your teenager is perfectly unique, and naturally all teenagers respond to different situations in their own individual way.  If you are concerned about your child, it is always worth seeking professional help.

Therapy can be a valuable tool for teenagers who are facing a variety of challenges, such as academic stress, social anxiety, family conflicts, depression, and behavioral issues. Therapy can help teenagers build resilience, improve their coping skills, and develop a better understanding of themselves and their emotions.

Person-Centred Counselling is used primarily along side other models of approach, depending on their specific needs and concerns. Cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) is a popular form of therapy that focuses on changing negative patterns of thought and behaviour, and is often used to treat anxiety and depression in teenagers.

In addition to traditional talk therapy, other forms of therapy may be helpful for teenagers, such as art therapy, music therapy, or equine therapy. These approaches can help teenagers express themselves in new ways, and may be particularly effective for those who have difficulty communicating their feelings verbally.

It is important for teenagers to feel comfortable with their therapist, so they may want to look around and try different therapists until they find someone they connect with. Parents can also play a role in supporting their teenager's therapy by providing transportation, helping to schedule appointments, and showing interest in their teenager's progress.

I have supported young people through some of their most challenging situations in life such as:

  • Absent parent

  • Anxiety

  • Behavioural issues

  • Bereavement

  • Bullying

  • Divorce

  • Grief and Loss

  • Change

I also work with young people who struggle with:

  • Confidence

  • Drug or alcohol misuse

  • Low self-esteem

  • Risk-taking behaviours

  • Self-harming

  • Sexual and gender identity

  • Socialising

  • Suicidal thoughts

How I can help

I’m also here to help your teenager cope with everyday worries, such as exam stress and career choices, or relationship issues with friends, family members and teachers.

Having therapy with me will give your teenager the opportunity to talk about their thoughts and feelings without the fear of judgement. Speaking to a counsellor, away from home and school life, often feels neutral and can take away some of the pressure. Counselling will offer a safe environment for your child to express their feelings and understand what may have caused them to feel this way.

Raising a child through adolescence can be a whirlwind of drama with more than a few emotions. Counselling can give your teenager the self-awareness and resources they need to overcome challenges and thrive in their everyday lives.

My aim is to help your teenager grow into a healthy, well-balanced adult who can rationally navigate their life experiences in the future.

Teenagers often find it difficult to verbalise their feelings. They may find it overwhelming and be confused by the tsunami of complex feelings that come as they grow from childhood toward adulthood. Unsurprisingly, the idea of seeing a stranger doesn’t immediately appear appealing. That’s where an experienced professional counsellor can help.

I’ve worked with teenagers and have learnt how to connect with them, no matter how reluctant they may be initially to access counselling.
